  • I am very pleased to be able to offer a new limited, signed and numbered edition Gicleé print by my life-long friend, Jamie Wyeth.

"The Thief" depicts a raven on the the artist's island home off the coast of Maine, site of the many acclaimed paintings which reflect the artist's renowned interest in island light and life. Mr. Wyeth has painted ravens for many years and is powerfully drawn to their innate intelligence as well as the age-old myths which surround them. I have heard him tell wonderful stories of his experiences with the large group of these secretive birds which have come to trust his presence on the island.

The edition of 150 prints (plus 20 artist's proofs) is signed and numbered by Mr. Wyeth. Each print will be accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The paper size is approximately 27 x 22 inches, and the image itself is approximately 22 x 18 inches.

Never before has the artist felt that a fine art process was capable of providing the rich, detailed, luminous interpretation he demands of his work. When he saw his first proof, he knew that he had, at last, found a process which would equal the power of his original paintings.

Your print of "The Thief" will be securely packaged in archivally inert materials and shipped via UPS, Federal Express, or other reliable agent. Each print will be accompanied by a reprint from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's excellent publication, "The Care and Handling of Art Objects."

Orders will be honored and prints allocated in the order of receipt. (Please allow two weeks for delivery.) Credit cards, personal checks and money orders accepted.

    $1,500 (U.S.) plus $50 shipping.

If you'd like to order  The Thief, please contact Peter Ralston. Also, be sure to see Peter Ralston's Nash Editions portfolio of photographs from his latest book, SIGHTINGS.

    [The Gicleé Process]

Gicleé prints are museum quality works which, given a diligent artist's access to sophisticated imaging technology, can offer truly extraordinary detail and the richest possible interpretation of the artist's original vision. In the case of reproductions of paintings using this process, it is sometimes difficult for even the artist to tell the original painting from the print.

As far as the technnical details of this print are concerned, Gicleé (pronounced zhee-clay), a French term meaning "spray of ink", is a process that utilizes the IRIS printer, the most sophisticated digital printer for fine art to date. Pushing the leading edge of fine art printmaking, digital printmaking has earned its reputation as one of the most creative mediums available to today's working artists. Its capabilities of range and responsiveness are virtually unparalled in the fine art world. The prints it produces are well known for their color density, saturation and brilliance. The results are truly extraordinary.

The inksets were chosen to ensure maximum archival stability, and the paper is, of itself, a marvel. The Somerset stock is manufactured by a mill with a 400-year history in the west country of England, and is 100% cotton, acid-free, and light fast. Each hand inspected sheet is buffered with calcium carbonate to prevent degredation by atmospheric acidity to make it a truly archival product. For additional archival stability, each print is finished with an invisible UV protective coating to ensure maximum protection of your artwork. Gicleé prints are now in the collections of and exhibited by major museums around the world; they should receive the same care and attention as any other valuable original artwork.
