To honor and support the mission of the Island Institute, Jamie Wyeth has dedicated a limited, signed and numbered edition of his remarkable painting, Iris at Sea, to this unique and important non-profit organization.
Iris at Sea depicts the artist's island lighthouse home off the coast of Maine, site of the many acclaimed paintings which reflect the artist's renowned interest in island light....and lighthouses. The juxtaposition of the fragile iris with the massive solidity of the light tower speaks directly to the Institute's mission of carefully balanced historic preservation, community service and conservation in the face of powerful forces of change.
Never before has the artist felt that a fine art process was capable of providing the rich, detailed, luminous interpretation he demands of his work. When he saw his first proof, he knew that he had, at last, found a process which would equal the power of his original paintings.
"Jamie Wyeth has re-invented one of the most potent images in the history of American art, charging it anew with power and truth. It takes real guts to paint a lighthouse in Maine." --Chris Crosman, Director, Farnsworth Art Museum
The edition of 300 prints (plus artist's proofs) is signed and numbered by Mr. Wyeth. Each print will be accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
